Penticton
A terrific destination within the province of British Columbia is the charming and picturesque city of Penticton, which is part of the scintillating Okanagan Valley. The marketing men translate the meaning of Penticton to say it is ‘a place to stay forever’ for the purposes of tourism, but in actual fact, the name of the town is in reference to the all-year round flow of the Okanagan River, which empties into the Skaha Lake.
Like most British Columbian cities, Penticton has an exciting variety of activities to enjoy and a wealth of sights to explore and discover. It is no rumour that the city's population literally triples during the summer months as an influx of eager travellers descend on these shores ready to soak up the awesome atmosphere and warm hospitality on offer. The summer months in these parts are quite spectacular with the scenery that surrounds you being nothing short of magnificent. Activities to enjoy include swimming, water-skiing, boating, fishing, and many other water sports that can be pursued at either the Skaha or Okanagan Lakes that have their very own pristine, sandy beaches.
For those more adventurous travellers, rock climbing at the Skaha Bluffs is a very popular alternative, while the Kettle Valley Railway Trail offers terrific opportunities for mountain biking and hiking. Penticton is of course home to a fabulous golf course so that avid golfers can indulge in a round of their favourite game with a friend. Being in the heart of wine country, Penticton puts visitors in close proximity to a number of fine wineries that offer a tantalising world-wide selection of delicious bouquets; dining in this city is further accentuated with a glass of a very good wine.
