Travelling through the Canadian area of British Columbia is indeed a supremely overwhelming experience as visitors are inspired and bowled over by the undulating beauty the region. Situated here is the terrific and magnificent Kootenay National Park, which along with the other reserves and parks that make up the national parks of the famous Canadian Rockies, has achieved the prestigious tag of UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984 for its blistering landscape of mountain peaks, lakes, glaciers, waterfalls, limestone caves, canyons, and fossils.
With all of this on display, travellers to Kootenay are likely to be occupied for days at a time exploring this majestic kaleidoscope of colours and aesthetics, marvelling at one of the greatest tributes to Mother Nature found anywhere in North America. Compared to the other national parks in this specific system, Kootenay receives far less visitors, but this is not a bad thing if you’re looking for seclusion and privacy to explore and discover this national paradise. The Kootenay Parkway is a terrific scenic drive through the park and boasts breathtaking and imperious views of the majestic landscape with only the famous Icefields Parkway rivalling it for immense beauty.
Kootenay National Park’s other attractions include the likes of the Hot Springs, Marble Canyon, Olive Lake, and the Paint Pots. The Hot Springs are undoubtedly a popular draw card for visitors as there is a hot springs pool ranging from temperatures between 35°C and 47°C. The Pot Paints are well-visited too as they are a unique and special collection of iron-rich cold mineral springs that bubble up through a number of small pools, bringing up a colour combination of dark red and dark orange.
