In French, Grand Pré translates to "Great Meadow" and the village boasts a rich heritage of romanticized folklore, particularly encapsulating the notorious Acadian Expulsion of 1755 without detracting from the breathtaking beauty of the area itself. Just north of the Historic Village, lies many acres of what was once marshland, but with the new and elaborate dyke system, it was tamed into fertile farmland by the Acadian settlers. This lush 14 acre site includes beautiful, traditional flower, herb and vegetable gardens, a historical church and a fascinating blacksmith shop. Cultural Acadian activities are still hosted through the year.
