Columbia Valley is one of Canada’s most popular and fantastic destinations for many reasons. Besides being one of the most vividly beautiful spots in all of North America, the Columbia Valley boasts an elegant kaleidoscope of lakes, communities, hamlets, mountains, and wonderful weather. Also known as the Windermere Valley, Columbia Valley is situated in British Columbia two hours away from the Canadian city of Banff and on the warmer side of the famous Canadian Rockies.
For those that love the water, the valley has two picturesque lakes in Windermere and Columbia both terrific for recreational pleasures and both exuding tranquillity. It’s the perfect way to relax especially if you are in need of a well-earned break. During summer the lakes offer boating, fishing, water skiing, and white water rafting, while travellers can enjoy another popular pastime skiing in the winter months. Of course with the Rockies in such close proximity, many visitors to these parts enjoy the likes of fishing in one of the many mountain streams, hiking and mountain biking while encountering some of the most outstanding views found anywhere in the world. Columbia Valley is also home to the Kootenay National Park, which is an awesome dedication to Mother Nature in all her splendour; a visit to this national park is the perfect day tripper for those avid nature fans.
Finally, for those travellers lucky enough to visit the Columbia Valley during the first week of May, the local residents host an annual event known as the Wings over the Rockies Bird Festival, which celebrates the flight of over 250 bird species back to the region. If you are an avid bird watcher, this is an experience not to be missed – and yet another reason to visit this incredible destination.
